Samsung Galaxy S10 5G Release Delayed; Likely on April 5

Operators in South Korea announced that it would start offering 5G service for smartphones in March 2019. As the deadline nears, the South Korean government has said that it will almost certainly miss the target. Now the launch of 5G networks will be delayed to Q2 2019; an April launch is now being pitched, Korea Herald reported.

The country’s Ministry of Science and ICT said that the commercialisation of 5G is possible when various factors such as network, smartphones and service are ready. The ministry further said it is coordinating with SK Telecom, KT and LG Uplus along with device makers on the matter.

The 5G launch timetable was reliant on Galaxy S10 5G device, which it now seems will not complete tests in time for the March 2019 launch.

Samsung Electronics said that the release of Samsung Galaxy S10 5G would be delayed in Korea. Previously, around March 28, Samsung Galaxy S10 5G was considered as a major release date, but now the release of the 5G phone is expected to be postponed. However, as per sources, a new release date for Samsung Galaxy S10 5G is likely to be around April 5, 2019.

Update 3/21/2019: Samsung Confirms that it will release its first 5G smartphone “the Galaxy S10 5G” on April 5 in South Korea. Initially, the S10 5G will also launch in the US as Verizon exclusive.

Additionally, LG Electronics will also not be able to release its V50 ThinQ, which supports 5G network until April due to delay in acquiring Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 855 chipset.
