EMUI 12 Update: Everything You Need to Know

Since the launch of HarmonyOS, Huawei’s own operating system, which incidentally is having great success with several partnerships and millions of installations made, EMUI has been left out, mainly due to its inferior performance. Until then, however, the availability of the new OS remains exclusive to Huawei and Honor devices in China, while EMUI is stagnant in version 11. Huawei continues to release maintenance updates for the brand’s global devices that haven’t had access to HarmonyOS yet, but the question that remains is: will EMUI reach version 12? Apparently, the answer to that question is yes. Huawei has officially released the main new features that will come with EMUI 12.

What’s new in EMUI 12?

This new version of Huawei’s software is surprising, as many considered this customization layer dead after the arrival of HarmonyOS 2.0. However, it is a reality and it has come to stay, as it brings all kinds of news that more than one user will like. One of the first is its innovative new design for the user interface. The new features that come with the EMUI 12 are simple UI design, rich animation effects, flexible adjustment of font-weight, new control panel, new notification centre, intelligent equipment and collaboration, distributed file system, video calls between devices (MeeTime), experience better performance and greater security protection.

EMUI 12 availability in the UK, Europe and the USA

The EMUI 12 is aimed at global users who rely heavily on Android. We will see EMUI 12 in UK and Europe (Germany, Poland, Italy, Mexico, Turkey, Spain etc markets) soon. There is no word regarding EMUI 12 USA rollout as the Huawei-Google relationship has been a major challenge since 2019 due to the US trade ban on Huawei. It looks as HarmonyOS 2.0 is limited to China only so EMUI 12 will bring the HarmonyOS experience for global users.

If we consider EMUI 11 rollout schedule, Huawei will likely release EMUI 12 update into these markets:

  • Latin America
  • Japan
  • Asia Pacific
  • India
  • The Middle East, Africa, and Russia
  • Western Europe
  • Northeastern Europe

HarmonyOS is not ready to leave China. So EMUI 12 is on the way for global users.
