This guide will explain what hybrid hibernation is in Windows 11 and how to disable or enable Hibernate.
What is Windows 11 Hibernate Mode?
Hibernation in Windows 11 is a hybrid sleep mode that shuts down a computer or laptop after a specified amount of inactivity, saving work to disk in the file C: \ hiberfil.sys. When you turn on the PC, all open programs and work will be restored from the file even when the power is turned off in the apartment, which does not do the usual Hibernation. This allows you to save on energy when you are often away from your laptop for a long time.
We will give an example in which Windows 11 hibernation can be better than average sleep mode. Suppose we have an SSD on which the system is installed and an HDD on which various files and games are installed. The fact is that the HDD goes to sleep, but the system works. Reopening any local drive on the HDD gives a long boot start up the entire drive. In the power scheme, we had to set it so that the HDD never turns off so that it opens quickly during operation. For this reason, our PC does not go into normal hibernation mode since sleep in the disk column is set to 0, and it works for all disks, not specific ones. For this reason, we use Hibernation to force the PC to shut down and go to sleep while still working.
There is one point about Hibernation that users using low volume SSDs may not like. The fact is that when the hybrid mode is triggered, then all the work files are saved to disk and in RAM. The file hiberfil.sys is responsible for this, which can take up to 20 GB over time.
