How to Download and Install Windows 11 Media Player App

Windows Media Player is available in almost all Windows 11 by default and must be installed (Dev Channel Only). The player is not available in Windows N and NK editions, as these are intended for use in Europe, and the commission forced Microsoft to exclude this player. Alternatively, the Media Player can be downloaded from the official Microsoft website. This guide will discuss how you can download the latest version of Media Player for Windows 11 and install it without downloading since it is already in the system.

Windows 11 Media Player App

Download Windows 11 Media Player App

It is currently available on the Windows 11 22471 or higher build.

Open the Microsoft Store app on your Windows 11 PC

Now click on the Library icon.

You will see an update for Groove Music under Updates & Download.

Now download and update the Groove Music app.

That’s it; you will see the welcome screen of the New Media Player app.

Note: Microsoft has released a new Media Player app for Windows 11 Insiders enrolled in the Dev channel. The app carries version number 11.2110.34.0 and requires Windows 11 build 22471 or newer to install. Also, the new Media Player app replaces the Groove Music app. As of now, non-Insiders can’t sideload the latest Media Player app since it requires version 22471 or higher to run.

Update January 5: The Media Player is now rolling out to non-Insiders also. If your PC is running Windows 11 Build 22000.346 or newer then you can install the app manually or from the Microsoft store.

To open the setting app, you must press the Win + I key combination.

On the Settings page, click on Apps.

On the right panel, choose Optional features.

A list of all installed Optional features will be shown; check out if Windows Media Player is there (Use the search bar)

If you see the Windows Media Player app in the list, then open the app from the Start menu.

If the Media Player app is not listed, click on View features from Add an optional feature.

In the search box, type “Windows Media Player”.

Select the Media Player and click on the Next button.

Finally, click on the Install option.

The new Windows 11 Media Player app supports browsing, managing, and local video collection. Your PC music and video folders will automatically be shown in your library. The app is also optimized for accessibility. It has an improved keyboard shortcut and access key support for keyboard users. We can experience dedicated music playback (in the entire screen and mini-player) with rich album art and artist imagery.
